It is heart wrenching. The devastating wild fires are not discriminating. Animals, human and non-human, companions, wildlife and livestock forced to flee for safety. Thankfully, because of Hurricane Katrina we passed legislation requiring the government to consider animals when developing emergency sheltering plans. However, the scope of these fires is astounding and animals need our help. Katrina also taught us to be wary of charities asking for donations, since not all are what they claim.
To help animals affected by the California wild fires, consider donating to Best Friends Animal Society. Best Friends has consistently demonstrated its commitment to caring for animals and spending your donations to benefit animals, not itself, nor its employees. Best Friends is the real deal and they will truly help animals.
