As a vegan, I have the luxury of not thinking about the suffering endured by my food. If you are a carnivore you need to think. In fact, if you eat animals, you must stop saying “don't tell me”. If you are a carnivore, it's time you faced the truth about your food and the truth is on video. A sickening, horrifying video.
If you eat meat, do not turn away from the video, watch it, think about what you are witnessing and then ask do you support torturing animals so you can eat meat? Understand that what you witnessed happens across the country. Understand that cows, pigs, goats, chickens, turkeys and lambs suffer horribly just so you can eat meat. Is it worth it?
One of the mistakes we make is walking through life without fully engaging our brains We do not contemplate moral questions, sometimes because we are too busy, usually because we know that if we contemplate we will end up making major lifestyle changes. It's just easier to be ignorant. Well, you've watched the video, you are no longer allowed to live a blissfully ignorant life.
Instead, you must make conscious choices, you must engage, you must think before you act. But if you are a compassionate human, you will act, since you cannot cause suffering on other beings, especially when the suffering is merely for your convenience.
So now you know, what do you do? You stop eating animals. Pretty simple really. I know most of us are wedded to a lifestyle of convenience and quick fulfillment of our wants. Being a vegan takes a little thinking and planning. You won't be driving through McDonald's and eating out of the bag on the way home. Instead, you'll be eating very healthy, fresh food that you've cooked yourself. Eating will be an experience, your taste buds will be awakened by the splendid variety of spices and seasonings that make food delicious. You will think before you eat and you will be thankful that animals are not suffering and dying to end up on your plate.
