Throwing down the gauntlet and all those other fighting mad cliches. Montcalm County Controller Chis Hyzer decided that rescue groups will no longer be allowed to take pictures of the dogs and cats at Montcalm County Animal Shelter. It seems to be connected to the publicity surrounding Cocoa, the dog who suffered for days at the shelter with a badly injured and infected leg. We can confirm every word we wrote about her mistreatment and neglect at the shelter and because of that, the bureaucrat in charge decided that rescues would not be allowed to take pictures any more.
Well, guess what Mr. Bureaucrat, you don't make the laws. You are an employee of the citizens of Montcalm County, not the boss of the county. I have a sneaking suspicion that you will soon learn who's the real boss.
Let's do something about Montcalm County and the way it treats animals. Write to the Montcalm County Board of Commissioners, let them know that you will not stand by while animals are killed or given to research. Let them know that the shelter MUST cooperate with those trying to save lives. Let them know that petfinder is a free and necessary resource that the shelter will use. Let them know that you agree with calls to boycott their county until they show compassion and concern for companion animals.
